Abstract

Zusammenfassung Mahl- und Schlachtsteuer nannte man eine in Preußen 1820 eingeführte Steuer auf in die Stadt eingebrachtes Fleisch und Getreide, die wegen ihrer unsozialen Wirkung starker Kritik ausgesetzt war. Die Mahlsteuer wurde auf das zur Mühle gebrachte Getreide und die in das Steuergebiet eingeführten Fertigwaren erhoben, die Schlachtsteuer auf die zum Schlachten angelieferten Tiere bzw. die eingeführten Fleisch- und Fettwaren. Nicht der Steuer unterlag hingegen das Wildbrett, das wohlhabende Jäger von der Jagd mitbrachten; diese konnten unbehelligt und unkontrolliert vor den Augen der Bevölkerung das Stadttor passieren.
