„Umpflügen der Erde“ der wachsenden Menschheit – Klimaänderung I

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Hier wird die Bedeutung einer seit über 2000 Jahren unterschiedlich schnell gewachsenen Menschheit betrachtet. Während zur Zeit des römischen Kaisers Augustus etwa im Jahr der Varus-Schlacht im Teutoburger Wald rund 200 Millionen Menschen (≈ 0,2 Mrd.) lebten, stieg diese Zahl sukzessive bis zu Napoleons Kaiserkrönung im Jahr 1804 auf etwa 1 Mrd. Menschen. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg lag die Weltbevölkerung bei 2,4 Mrd., im Jahr 2000 bei etwas über 6 Mrd. und 2020 überschritt die Bevölkerung 7,8 Mrd. Menschen; zu Ende des 21. Jahrhunderts werden 10 Mrd. erwartet. Jeder dieser Menschen benötigt Nahrung, Wasser, Wohnung und zunehmend Energieträger. Infolgedessen bewirkt das Bevölkerungswachstum ein immer stärkeres „Umpflügen“ der Erdoberfläche und erhebliche Störung der bisherigen ökologischen Kreisläufe und auch bisher wirkungsvoller Senken für CO2. Diese Aktivitäten sind seit der Klimakonferenz 2001 in Marrakesch als „changed land use“ mit hoher Klimarelevanz eingestuft.
