Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der Anlass, in einer Region enger zusammenzuarbeiten, kann vielfältig sein: gemeinsame Herausforderungen wie Naturkatastrophen, Sicherheits- oder wirtschaftliche Interessen, die zusammen effektiver durchgesetzt werden können, oder auch geopolitische Veränderungen, die einer Antwort bedürfen. Deutlich wurde uns kürzlich vor Augen geführt, wie eine mächtige wirtschaftliche Allianz entstehen und andere Regionen zum Umdenken bewegen kann: das Freihandelsabkommen für den asiatisch-pazifischen Raum, RCEP („Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership“) [1], das 15 Staaten umfasst und mit dem den USA die Stirn geboten werden soll. Neben den zehn Mitgliedern der ASEAN-Staaten, „Association of South-East Asian Nations“ [2] zählen Australien, China, Japan, Neuseeland und Südkorea zu den Gründungsmitgliedern.
