Abstract

Zusammenfassung Schon in vergangenen Jahrhunderten führten Epidemien zu weitreichenden Veränderungen in europäischen Städten. Der Beitrag zeigt anhand von Paris und Hamburg wie der Ausbruch der Cholera im 19. Jahrhundert das jeweilige Stadtbild nachhaltig prägte. Stadtplanerische Maßnahmen, wie u. a. neu geschaffene Verkehrsinfrastruktur, der Bau von Wasserfiltrationsanlagen und Kanalisationssystemen, geringere Wohnraumbelegungen und insbesondere der Bau sanitärer Anlagen, führten dort zu Aufwertungen von Gebäuden, aber gleichzeitig auch zu Verdrängungseffekten in den Innenstädten.
