Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Redensart „Adel verpflichtet!“ bedeutet, dass eine angesehene gesellschaftliche Position zu entsprechenden Verhaltensweisen verpflichtet und ist die wörtliche Übersetzung der französischen Maxime „noblesse oblige“ aus dem 1808 erschienenem Buch von Pierre Marc Gaston Duc de Lévis, Maximes et réflexions sur différents sujets de morale et de politique. Auch wenn der Adelsstand heute nicht mehr dieselbe Rolle spielt wie noch vor 150 Jahren, hat das Prinzip nichts von seiner Gültigkeit verloren und wird heute auf angesehene Personen und Berufsgruppen übertragen. Zu den angesehensten zeitgenössischen Berufsständen in Recht und Wirtschaft gehören insbesondere Steuerberater, Wirtschaftsprüfer und Anwälte.
