Abstract

Zusammenfassung Seit COVID-19 sind alle Zukunftsaussagen für den stationären Einzelhandel hinfällig geworden. Sämtliche Prognosen über die Strukturveränderungen des Handels werden schneller Wirklichkeit, als Experten das bislang vorherzusagen vermochten. Wie ein Brandbeschleuniger macht das Virus deutlich, dass nicht Subventionen den Einzelhandel retten können, sondern intelligentes Handeln. Ob der stationäre Handel überhaupt noch Chancen hat, beschäftigt derzeit die Gemüter. In jedem Fall verkörpern stationäre Betriebsformen die älteren Formate im Wheel of Retailing. Demgegenüber gelten E-Commerce und Online-Handel eher als Innovatoren.
