Abstract

Zusammenfassung Kulturelle Verständigung kann auf zwei Ebenen gelingen oder scheitern: auf der obersten Abstraktionsebene zwischen den Kulturen (Kulturkreise, Orient vs. Okzident, der Islam und der Westen) und auf der untersten Interaktionsebene zwischen den Individuen bzw. Gruppen, die als Repräsentanten ihrer Kultur gelten oder als solche klassifiziert, wahrgenommen und erlebt werden. Die im Abschn. 3.4 beschriebene Bedrohung durch Stereotype ist ein Beispiel für das Scheitern auf der Interaktionsebene. Klischees, Stereotype und Vorurteile auf beiden Seiten sind grundsätzlich die größten Stolpersteine der kulturellen Verständigung. Und trotz des enorm beschleunigten Informationsaustauschs in unserer globalisierten Welt sind diese Stereotype nicht verschwunden, sondern werden tagtäglich reproduziert und neu erfunden, in sozialen Netzwerken, in Leserkommentaren oder zuhause konstruiert durch verschiedene mediale und soziale Narrative.
