Importance of Strategic PMO Functions for PM Maturity

Abstract

Recently, PMO (Project Management Office) is commonly understood as a key to the success of project management, especially with multiple project management in the organizations. PMOs are expected to improve PM maturity of organizations, as it is proved that PM maturity affects the organization performance. On the other hand, it is not yet clear what sort of PMO is most effective to achieve PM maturity of the organization. Many academics and practitioners describe that PMOs should obtain more strategic functions, although there is no clear definitions of these strategic functions. Therefore, this paper aims to find the important strategic functions which affect PM maturity. In this research, three strategic functions are extracted as important functions for PM maturity based on quantitative and qualitative analyses.
