Abstract

In this chapter four applications of SAL are briefly set out along with six features which permeate each practical application. These applications and features are a summary of many case studies drawn from the author’s experience in applying SAL. The four applications of SAL are for: ongoing whole system optimisation, complex problem solving, individual leadership development, and undertaking organisation (re)design. The six features of SAL’s practical application are: focussing on real and pressing issues; counteracting a high action orientation; using data from actual practice; acknowledging and promoting different perspectives; focussing on participant learning and shared understanding; and adapting the process emergently.
