Abstract

Latin America has been growing at its fastest sustained pace in more than three decades, mainly due to favorable external conditions and the region’s increased involvement in the global economy. However, public opinion displays mixed feelings regarding globalization and foreign investments — people are more skeptical than citizens in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, although more positive than Europeans and those living in the US. But results also show sharp contrasts between the different Latin American countries, a feature that can explain the difficulties in developing a continental economic zone.
