Abstract

Greek agriculture is dependent on cap subsidies, which have shaped production to a certain extent. The structure of CAP payments, especially under the new CAP, reflects the structure of farms. Greece has been charged often and with large amounts for mishandling of CAP payments. The political governanceGovernance of the agricultural sector is unprofessional, inefficient and highly centralized. Extension and vocational training is also highly inefficient and underfunded. Agricultural researchResearch in Greece is above EU average, but is not linked to the sector.
