Abstract

May be start with a definition/presentation of Confucius Institute (CI) as tools for Chinese global diplomacy and in Africa most specifically and how they have appeared more or less strategic in the context of the BRI Created in October 2009, the Confucius Institute of the University of Lomé celebrated its thirteenth anniversary in October 2022. During all these years, thanks to a rigorous pedagogy and the focus on serving the enterprises related to China, the Institute has trained more than ten thousand learners. The added value is great, in terms of professional integration for the graduates or in the field of business, both in Togo and in the West African sub-region. Full-time students learn Chinese language, culture, and civilization here as well as Togolese culture, which develop a love for China and enable them to either win a scholarship to continue study in China or win prizes in international competitions. All these realities reinforce the idea that the Confucius Institute of the University of Lomé, as well as the CI in other African countries, is a powerful performance of Chinese soft power which tell Chinese Stories and strengthen the image of China in Togo and elsewhere in the world.
