The New Model: Capital and Technical Assistance

Abstract

The presence of private U.S. investment and the technical assistance provided by Rockefeller’s programs marked the beginning of a new U.S. model to support Brazilian agricultural development. Brazil’s economic development prior to the onset of the Cold War. Programs sponsored by Nelson Rockefeller and various U.S. government agencies were supplemented by the strong presence of private U.S. capital. Three already established private U.S. firms—Anderson Clayton, Swift, and Armour—maintained a strong presence in their respective sectors.
