Abstract

Chapter 2 chapter begins with the origins and identification of the field of development ethics in relation to the theme of the book. Special consideration is given to the Aristotelian influence on development ethics, particularly the ethical incorporation of a good life and a good society. Then, the chapter discusses the evolution of development ethics from Goulet’s 1970s contribution to the establishment of the International Development Ethics Association, in 1987, and beyond.
