Abstract

Without taking into account the sustainability and circularity of natural systems, plastic production and consumption trends have led to marine plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the plastic life cycle. The issue of plastics in sustainable development can be effectively solved by the circular economy (CE) approach for plastics. The circular economy model for plastics has evolved in a variety of ways, necessitating identification and evaluation. By applying the HK model, which is applied in reality, the findings of the study indicate that the HK model is a typical and advanced CE model for plastics, and that it is therefore widely used in regions that must deal with plastic pollution. The chapter also addresses the concerns about the manufacturer’s expanded responsibilities and the function of intermediaries in bringing stakeholders together. The SWOT analysis of the HK model’s implementation reveals the opportunities and challenges for maintaining and growing the model.
