Abstract

To fully understand how crowdfunding can successfully contribute to environmental sustainability and the circular economy, it is necessary to study and comprehend the success factors of sustainability-oriented crowdfunding campaigns. This chapter firstly analyzes recent scientific literature that sampled crowdfunding projects with both generalist and sustainability features to understand how the sustainability/circularity factor influenced success. Secondly, the chapter delves into the literature that examines potential success factors exclusively for projects dedicated to sustainable and circular initiatives. For conducting such analysis, the chapter reconstructs various theoretical frameworks from the relevant literature that have driven the analysis of success factors for crowdfunding campaigns explicitly aimed at sustainability and the circular economy. The analyses presented in this chapter serve as a foundation for understanding what has been explored in this domain and outline potential directions for future research.
