Abstract

The chapter provides a conceptual discussion of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in finance and sustainability, focusing on different dimensions and steps in the evolution of this intersection. In particular, it addresses the potential for integrating AI into sustainability practice and research, and how AI can improve environmental, social, and governance (ESG) finance, including related ethical considerations. It identifies implications for the future of AI, sustainability, and finance. In addition, this chapter responds to the need for additional research to determine how to maximize the use of emerging intelligent technologies to address sustainability challenges, particularly climate change.
