Abstract

This chapter outlines the essential components necessary for successful strategy implementation. It underscores the critical role of change management in ensuring effective implementation, emphasizing the importance of aligning the internal organization with external contingencies (external fit) and identifying complementarities among its internal elements (internal fit). The chapter also highlights the dual role of organizational inertia: while it can hinder the successful implementation of value-creating strategies, it can also protect public and nonprofit organizations from implementing value-destroying strategies.
