Abstract

In 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, universally known as FIFA, was established to organise, govern, and promote football. “Football” is the sport residents of the United States, Canada, and Australia now call, and the U.K. formerly called, “soccer”. Easily the most popular sport in the world, football is played in every country, territory, and remote island on the planet Earth. Playing football requires no expensive equipment and almost anyone can kick a ball. This chapter focuses on FIFA’s grim history of football corruption, although it must be noted that sports in general have been marred by human frailty for centuries.
