Abstract

In this conclusion to our book, we summarise the main lessons that could be learned from our investigation of the activities of DG II modellers. What does the history of a very specific type of economic experts (the modellers within the DG II) tell us about the history of economic expertise in Europe at large? What does the reconstruction of four decades of challenges in modelling Europe (that is, modelling the economic interdependencies across EEC Member States) tell us about the history of international macroeconomics? While summarising the main findings of this book, these concluding remarks focus also on three paths for further research.
