Abstract

Studies on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things in the tourism and hospitality industries have been increasing in recent years. This chapter adds to existing discussion by adding the South African case study. The chapter utilises a bibliometric analysis approach. The results show that tourism and hospitality enterprises are rapidly adopting and integrating AI and the Internet in their operations. Using AI and the Internet, enterprises are now able to benefit from the potential of the latest technologies in the tourism, and hospitality industry using augmented reality and metaverse, ChatGPT, and blockchain adoption. Tourists can also now explore a world transformed by technology, in which the Internet, cloud computing, and social media have been creating different opportunities and challenges.
