Abstract

Wine tourism is a strategic sector in the Spanish tourism industry, not just in the way it is produced or marketed, but also in its role as a tourist product. The reaction of the academic community to this phenomenon was swift, with a rapid growth in scientific output on the topic. However, there exist no reviews of this literature using a bibliometric analysis technique, which this paper aims to fill. Thus, this paper sets up a bibliometric description of the major characteristics of wine tourism research and aims to show its knowledge structure on the topic using bibliographic coupling analysis. Our findings reveal that the topics addressed have experienced a rapid evolution and highlight those studies that relate this topic to the topic of customer behavior. As future lines of research, this chapter recommends further studies on the topic be directed to addressing more complex models as well as include new relevant stakeholders and different contexts in the analysis.
