Abstract

In this chapter, the author provides insights into how this innovative concept can be brought to fruition. The recommendations are based on concepts developed within a project that the author’s company completed for the World Bank GroupWorld Bank Group. It also includes practical applications of Credit Rating AnalyticsCredit Rating Analytics’ consulting solution which is being implemented within an emerging market country (Pillay, S., Ismail, Z., Sikochi, A., & Odii, C. This project aims to develop a public sector gradinggrading(s) agency that will focus on creating business opportunities and improving access to finance. Once established, it will be the world’s largest SME rating system (public or private) and the first in emerging markets. The insights provided are pragmatic and can be useful for countries keen on creating a public sector SME credit ratingSME credit rating agencycredit rating agencies or a broad-based access-to-financeaccess-to-finance solution.
