Workplace Policy, Practices, & Procedures: Moving from a Select “Anti-ism” Framework Toward a Collective Approach

Abstract

The contents of this chapter investigate how an anti-oppressive framework grounded from social work can in turn inform practice, procedures, and policies to recognize the pervasiveness of racism in the workplace. In addition, with the contextual collaboration with the 1977 Combahee River Collective, I also intentionally center the individuals that often experience the greatest harm was a result to oppression. As a result, this newly conceptual framework centers how we as practitioners in organizations and educators could through practices, procedures, and policies reform the workplace. In this model, readers will note how the Anti-Oppressive Lens (AOL) functions within and through boundaries. Lastly, it is essential to note that this framework does not discredit the everchanging nor magnitude of racism, but explicitly calls for a collective approach in presenting a systemic solution.
