Abstract

Zusammenfassung Dieses Kapitel überträgt den modernen Ansatz der Seigniorage auf eine Warenwährung. Die Seigniorage wird als Gebühr für die Münzprägung oder durch die Entwertung von Münzen erzielt. Im Gegensatz zu einer Fiat-Währung kann eine optimale Seigniorage durch Kombinationen dieser Instrumente erreicht werden. Ohne die Festlegung weiterer Ziele, wie z. B. eines konstanten Metallgehalts pro Einheit, gibt es daher kein mit einer Fiat-Währung vergleichbares Ergebnis. Ein weiterer markanter Unterschied ist der unterschiedliche Grad an geldpolitischer Freiheit, den eine Regierung hat. Die Rohstoffbasis schränkt die Regierung in ihrer Geldpolitik ein, macht aber Hyperinflationen höchst unwahrscheinlich.
