Abstract

In this chapter, we will explore various theoretical lenses that are relevant to the phenomena of globalization and deglobalization. Initially, we will delve into the economic and political science theories that aid in comprehending the development of globalization and deglobalization. These theories furnish explanations from a macro perspective, offering insights into the larger context in which these processes occur. Next, the chapter will examine organizational theories that contribute to our understanding of why firms choose to globalize or deglobalize their supply chains. These theories focus on micro-level dynamics and the decision-making processes within individual firms, shedding light on the factors that drive them to expand or contract their global presence. By discussing both macro and micro perspectives, this chapter aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the forces shaping globalization and deglobalization.
