Abstract

This comparative study aimed to investigate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices in the emerging economies in Eastern Europe, specifically considering Poland and Russia. Despite sharing history and culture to a larger extent, the two countries’ political and economic development took different trajectories that led to the formation of a distinct environment for CSR practices. Secondary sources considered in this research are narrowed down through a funnel approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the existing phenomenon. From the extensive review, we found that there are severe challenges for the Russian framework of CSR practices due to a lack of disclosure and regulatory measures. This has impacted the country’s sustainable development plans to a larger extent. Nonetheless, post-pandemic, many companies are creating opportunities to involve the government in formulating a conducive environment. On the other hand, Poland has experienced higher interest and awareness about CSR. The CSR initiatives in Poland have significant potential to bring social, environmental, and economic rewards.
