Abstract

In this chapter, we conduct our quantitative analysis on capital mobility. Given data limitation, we had to restrict our analysis considerably. In terms of labor mobility, some of our research questions are analyzed using descriptive statistics and graphical analysis, while others make use of panel regression models. The chapter indicates a negative tendency in the volume of capital flows over the sample period. Differences in unemployment, wealth, and social benefits between countries can only marginally explain the volume in capital flows. Moreover, there might be regional bias (home bias) in the EA as we can observe a preference of investors to keep their wealth not only within the EA, but also as close as possible to their home countries.
