Nostalgia of Monarchy and Contemporary Right-Wing Politics in Nepal

Abstract

There has been a rising appeal towards monarchy and Hindu nation in Nepalese political discourse. This resurgence of right-wing politics is different from the other South Asian countries. The chapter focuses on analysing this rise as a nostalgic outcome and psychological desire for stability which has always been symbolised through monarchy in the country. The study also provides an idea of ‘King’ in Nepal. Importantly, the study provides an overview of contemporary right-wing politics in Nepal and briefly discusses the future of right-wing politics in the country. Theoretically, the chapter is based on the concept of right-wing politics as support to the traditional social hierarchies and order as a part of natural law. Methodologically, the study is qualitative research. It has used a deductive research methodology to draw the conclusion using primarily the secondary sources of data.
