Abstract

And, here is a rough estimate of the unjust enrichment, and damages from human rights abuses under conditions of forced labour. Does the formula capture well enough the necessary elements for useful estimates of most such damages? During the period of the plantation economy, the value of goods shipped was 1.763.442.000 florins, ($991,019,796) of which 76% was shipped to the Netherlands. The remaining 24% went to England and to the US. The net present value of goods imported in the Netherlands between 1683 and 1939 is €. 126 billion, as of 2006, or $141 billion. Enslaved people worked under circumstances of extreme Human Rights abuses. Mental Slavery was also systematically practised, as a tool of total control. The focus is on the value of the production. Is it possible to estimate the damages from human rights abuses under conditions of forced labour?
