Abstract

I was a “government is great” skeptic because of the way my father was treated by government. So I measure the effect of government policies to reduce the number of dumb policies selected. I was recruited by the Central Bank and then the Federal Department of Finance because I was good at econometrics and mathematical modeling. For five years I worked very hard to try to prevent monetary policy and fiscal policy mistakes. Then a former fellow student who had been a Hungarian Freedom fighter asked me if I was interested in creating a private institute that would provide an independent private sector assessment of the impact of proposed government policies. Thus began the Fraser Institute and my life’s work.
