Abstract

Hayek was certainly right in my case when he said that if leftists understood economics, they wouldn't be leftists. The study of economics revealed to me that human welfare is best served by a free market. This came as quite a shock to someone who grew up believing that if you’re for capitalism, then you must be for war and the surveillance state. After all, those on the left of politics were “the good guys” right? An obsession for consistency and getting in at the truth led to me abandoning my statist views for the libertarian position, but I wasn't an easy sell...
