Abstract

Barbara Kolm, from the Austrian Alps, the Tyrol, historically an independent and freedom loving region, was exposed by her family to the ideas of Hayek&Co. The 60’s and 70’s of postwar Europe, with the German economic miracle in full swing and the rise of the welfare state in the West and the iron curtain with the fatal errors of communism in the East were deeply engraved in her mindset. During her studies, she realized that the achievement principle, self-responsibility, and competition are not only theoretical concepts but values one needs to incorporate to self-advancement and elevation. Her entrepreneurial career is focused on spreading the fact that individual choice without economic freedom does not work. Consequently, she dedicates her life to defend those values.
