Abstract

The period roughly from 2020 and well into 2022 has been one of the most challenging for small businesses around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on many businesses, with some having to close their doors temporarily and others struggling to keep afloat. COVID-19 has demonstrated how unpredictable and impactful a crisis can be. It has also demonstrated how unpredictable societal response to a crisis can be. While the pandemic is now largely behind us, with several vaccines developed, countries around the world are taking measures to help prevent further outbreaks of the virus. The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the world, both in terms of mental and physical health as well as economically. The pandemic has also seen a shift in consumer behavior, with people becoming more cautious about spending their money and a large shift to online consumption. This has put increased pressure on small businesses who have had to adjust their operations to stay competitive. This chapter illustrates to what extent COVID-19 impacted on small businesses and how these business cope with the situation, especially post pandemic, and what lessons can be learned from these experiences.
