Abstract

Zusammenfassung Ziel dieses Kapitels ist es, ein gemeinsames Verständnis des Begriffs Intellektuelles Kapital (IK) und seines Konzepts zu gewährleisten sowie einen Einblick in die aktuelle Diskussion über die Messung und Berichterstattung von IK zu geben. Zu diesem Zweck werden Definitionen und Wahrnehmungen des intellektuellen Kapitals eingeführt und ein Einblick in den historischen Hintergrund von IK gegeben. Darüber hinaus wird die Rechnungslegungsperspektive auf das intellektuelle Kapital hervorgehoben, da das intellektuelle Kapital ein wachsendes Interesse in diesem Bereich darstellt. Die in der Literatur dargelegten Gründe für Unternehmen, sich mit der Berichterstattung von intellektuellem Kapital zu befassen, werden als nächstes vorgestellt, gefolgt von einer Einführung in die Herausforderungen der Wissensbilanzierung und einem Überblick über die Diskussion zur Messung des intellektuellen Kapitals. Darüber hinaus wird die externe Kommunikation mit Schwerpunkt auf der Finanzberichterstattung erörtert und es werden verfügbare Rahmenwerke für das Management und die Offenlegung von IK vorgestellt. Das Kapitel schließt mit einer Zusammenfassung, die das Thema Intellektuelles Kapital in den Kontext der aktuellen Forschung stellt.
