Abstract

This chapter concludes the book and explores underlying principles that are important to the discussion of productivity in the local and global context. It explores the relevance of specialization as a necessary strategy to improve productivity growth along with some other country specific factors which Jamaica can implement to improve productive performance and quality of life in Jamaica. These include greater support for the national productivity organization, a mandatory second language and increasing economic complexity to deliver higher value-added goods and services. Consequently, the chapter provides a pathway on how to escape the poverty trap sustainably.
