Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das erste Kapitel, die Einleitung, erläutert die Motivation und den Aufbau der Studie und erörtert Definitionen und Grenzen Zentralasiens (ZA), seine natürliche Umgebung und die wichtigsten Merkmale der Seidenstraße (SSTR). Zentralasien umfasst das Gebiet der fünf ehemaligen Sowjetrepubliken Kasachstan, Kirgisistan (Kirgisische Republik), Tadschikistan, Turkmenistan und Usbekistan sowie der autonomen chinesischen Region Xinjiang Uighur. Je nach den historischen Gegebenheiten kann das behandelte Gebiet manchmal auch angrenzende Territorien umfassen. ZA besteht geographisch in weiten Teilen aus einem Steppen- und einem Oasengürtel. Die Seidenstraße ist definiert als ein historisches Netz von Überlandhandelsrouten, die durch ZA verliefen und den kommerziellen, technologischen und kulturellen Austausch zwischen Europa, ZA, Indien und China ermöglichten.
