Refugee Entrepreneurship in the Context of Social Entrepreneurship

Non-profit activities that aim to create social value or to ensure the sustainability of these values in the society are called social entrepreneurship. Those who can produce solutions to the problems in the society with these activities, even with the limited resources available, are called social entrepreneurs. One of the main problems that social entrepreneurship deals with is to fight poverty and reduce the number of poor people in the society. The first problem that the refugees encounter, who had to migrate from their country to another country due to social pressure or war, was lack of income. For this reason, although the refugees, who increase the poverty rate of the country they migrated and have financial difficulties, can manage their lives for a while with any sort of aid, the main solution is to include these people into the employment. Refugees who have a skill or are inclined to trade need to be supported in their entrepreneurial activities, which they want to carry out to both earn income and provide employment to people they will work with. Social entrepreneurs provide support for refugees who have these entrepreneurial intentions, such as investment, training, and grants, through projects or individually and thus provide refugees with income to maintain their lives. In this study, interviews were held with social entrepreneurs in Türkiye who developed projects for refugee entrepreneurship and created support funds. As a result of the interviews, detailed information about the projects was given.
