Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the society and economy of the countries was paralyzed, social distancing measures were imposed, which restricted the right of free movement inside and outside the countries. These prohibitions resulted in the registration of return migration to the countries of origin. However, measures have been developed at the EU level to allow migrants employed in key areas of the destination countries’ economies to continue their activity. In addition to identifying these measures in the main EU states, this chapter highlights the future directions of the migration phenomenon and of the critical worker status after the pandemic.
