Abstract

This chapter takes up the history and progression of the ‘technical game’ in development as an important affirmation of technical superiority in the development business. Use and reuse of statistics, however poor they are, the importance of macro numbers, the GDP as ultimate benchmark, the incessant need for dense data and cross-country score cards, the obsessive imperative for project-level indicators, and the need to objectify the poor.
