Abstract

It was from my interest in the intersection between monetary and fiscal policy that my decision to start researching on capital theory arose. At first glance, that seems odd, since these fields seem to be miles apart. With this chapter, it is argued that this approach was influenced by Huerta de Soto’s insights about the effects of mismatches between real savings and investments. The reasoning, valid for credit expansion by the banks, is also valid for other forms of destruction and misrepresentation of real wealth, such as when financial resources are diverted from productive investment to pay for current expenses (and unproductive investments) by the state.
