The Definition of Organizational Objectives in a Structural Organization

Abstract

In this chapter, a structural approach for the definition of organizational objectives and of a consistent to structuralism approach for the Goal Cascading are presented. The introduction of the “SMARTEST” technique for the configuration of organizational objectives and the methods and techniques for objective (goal) setting in structural terms are discussed. A model for the structural Cascading of organizational objectives, the Goals (objectives) Breakdown Structure or GBS as a comprehensive method for the definition and structural distribution of performance objectives but also for any objective-based activity in organizational life is presented and analyzed. The formulation of objectives by “Trial and Error” and by the application of the principle of Continuous Improvement in objective setting which constitutes a structural goal setting improvement tool. Finally, a template and an example are presented for the formulation of “SMARTEST” objectives by following the GBS method.
