Barcelona and Madrid

Abstract

Many of the countries of the world have two cities and regions where there is diversity, duality, rivalry, specialisation and complementarity: New York vs Washington, Milan vs Rome, Barcelona vs Madrid and so forth. But a comparison now of these two cities and regions of Barcelona-Catalonia and Madrid shows that one is in decline and the other is flourishing. There is a very serious problem in Catalonia and its economy, and its origins are not in perfidious Spain but in the huge excesses of the Catalan separatists and their regional (mis)government. The decline of Catalonia is due to the intense confrontation the separatists have been stirring up for 40 years and it has led to a steep decline. The slogan ‘Spain robs us!’ has become ‘the process robs us!’
