Spain, from a Model Transition to Democracy to Failed State?

Spain made a model transition from dictatorship to democracy, because of the way it was done, observing the law, without political violence and because of the result, one of the most advanced democracies where legislative power, executive power and judicial power work, with an effective party system and a free press. Spain established a complete state with the rule of law, a complete state with social protection, an extraordinary degree of political and administrative decentralisation and of the public services. The recently installed democracy overcame the coup d’état attempted by residual elements of the Franco regime on 23 and 24 February 1981. Only ETA terrorism, with 800 assassinations, cast a cloud over Spanish democracy. The first probing forays of Catalan separatism appeared over the last two decades, culminating in the coup d’état of the autumn of 2017.
