Defining Social Enterprise

Abstract

The previous chapter considered alternative forms of enterprise which may be more compatible with MacIntyre. In this chapter, social enterprisesocial enterprise and its role within the economy will be discussed to explore its ability to be a practicepractice conducive institutioninstitution, compatible with MacIntyre. Social enterprise in the UK and Europe can be viewed as part of the social economysocial economy and this too will be explored to determine its pertinence to MacIntyre’s work. MacIntyre cites examples of cooperatives as practice-based institutions; social enterprise may present a wider body of organisations which can embody his views.
