Abstract

The role of a nonprofit’s board of directors on the engagement of its employees cannot be ignored. In much the same was as senior leadership can affect the engagement of employees in for-profit firms, nonprofit BODs in that senior leadership role have an influence—be it indirectly through the Executive Director or directly depending on the level of involvement. Let’s use the analogy of two somewhat controversial parenting trends—the “free-range” parent v. the “helicopter parent.”
