Abstract

Meeting the grand challengesgrand challenges and wicked problemswicked problems of our time requires an in-depth understand of how the systemssystems of society emerge and evolved into the modern societymodern society. This chapter introduces a systems lens, specifically a Luhmannian view of systems to understand grand challenges differently and examine the role of social entrepreneurshipsocial entrepreneurship in initiating systems changesystems change. Seen through Lohmann’s sociological perspective, we argue that wicked problems arise due to the challenges of communicationcommunication across the social systems of modern society. Through this Luhmannian view, this chapter seeks to discuss why society is complexcomplexity, how changes in one subsystem leads to adaptations in others, and briefly introduce the role of humans in the modern society.
