Abstract

The COVID-19COVID-19 pandemicpandemic was a once in a lifetime disruptiondisruption to all aspects of life. It was a truly global experience as its impact was felt by communities across the globe. The magnitude of the impact felt in loss of lives, disruptionsdisruption to work and supply chains, and to societal norms—to name but a few—highlighted how unprepared the international community was to deal with a challenge of that size. The pandemic spotlighted inefficiencies within the systemssystems that govern society, and how ill-equipped we are to address these. COVID-19 has left an indelible mark that has drastically altered the future of economic and social life. This chapter introduces the concepts of grand challengesgrand challenges and wicked problemswicked problems, and how social entrepreneurshipsocial entrepreneurship may be used as a tool to meet society’s grand challenges
