Abstract

Maybe they got it wrong. Maybe, when the European powers became such an influence in the world and acquired the habit of preaching their ideas to, and imposing these ideas on, all and sundry, maybe they made a mistake or two. Indeed, maybe some of the other civilisations had better ideals. One such belief might be that no majority has the democratic right to dominate a minority; instead, all should seek the common good. From ages past, many have been those who have campaigned for this democratic ideal. The seeds have often been sown. Sometimes the plants have grown. Rarely have they been harvested.
