Abstract

As financial institutions become more complex and more interconnected across jurisdictions, and as rules and regulations continue to evolve and the enforcement of those rules is being taken more seriously by various regulatory bodies, financial institutions will need to adopt proactive strategies to stay ahead of anti-money laundering compliance trends. In this chapter, we will explore the trends that are expected to shape anti-money laundering compliance in the coming years, discuss the shifting role of regulators, and propose strategies that financial institutions can adopt to keep ahead of the curve. We will also discuss how regulatory bodies around the world should not only focus on traditional financial institutions like financial institutions but also create a level playing field for FinTech companies and non-financial institutions, where customer due diligence requirements are significantly less extensive.
